Broadcast Edit Suites

After almost 9 years without the ability to edit broadcast spots, I built the case to justify the need to re-establish broadcast editing capabilities, which I speced and procured. With in 1 year of launching the edit suites, the FCB Foundry generated over $700,000.00 in revenue.

The heart of the edit stations contain:

  • 2 - Six core 2015 MacPro stations

  • 4 - Thunderbolt Displays

  • 2 - Sonnet Echo Express III-R Expansion Chassis

  • 2 - Aja Kona LHi Capture Card

  • 2 - Mackie 16 Channel Mixers

Project Summaries and Achievements
Cisco c40
WMware
VMware Cluster Project

Saved the agency $250,000.00 in hardware replacement costs by virtualizing end of life, but vital servers. The small to midrange scaled VM environment employ 2 hosts, 2 nodes, 10 virtual Machines and 72 TB of raw storage.

  • 2 HP DL380 Servers with 10 GE

  • Dell EqualLogic 4100 24 TB SAN

  • Dell EqualLogic 6210 48 TB SAN

  • VMware v-Sphere and v-Center

The end result was an efficient use of rseources with a much smaller footprint, and a huge cost saving.

Video Conferencing

Cisco C40 Solution

Because the list of clients located in different time zones continued to increase, the agency needed a more effective means of communication beyond the 1 to 1 peer video chat sessions. The answer, I scaled to an enterprise solution that not only answered client needs, it also tied the agency into the global infrastructure, ultimately saving the agency over $100,000.00 in annual site-to-site traveling and entertainment expenses.

Virtual Receptionist
Virtual Receptionist

The growing trend of a "no front desk receptionist" presented the challenge of, "how to we direct our clients to meet their contacts?" the answer, a virtual receptionist.

Faced with a reduced budget and a tight deadline, I came across a solution that alerts the subscribers via email and text and it simply runs on an iPad. I took it a step further and added the iPad to a kiosk that mounted a sleek 55" monitor pearched above it. I then attached a micro PC running android OS and a virtual digital signage package that loops a flash intro instructing the guests on how to use the system.

Dell EqualLogic 72TB SAN POOL and NAS Head

PS4100 / PS6210 + FS7600

Constantly running up against a wall of zero available server space I needed a scalable storage solution to address the growing storage needs. I started with a single 24 TB node which I later expanded with a 48 TB  PS6210 node to provide the storage piece for the VMware Cluster. Since I already installed the ISCSI network, scaling up was a no brainer.

For the host I opted in for the FS7600 NAS head for its tight integration in the group management, plus it provided the redundancy I was looking for in a single appliance.

XINET DAM

With hundreds of thousands of images, broadcast spots, digital media files and client photo-shoots, the agency needed a means of not only housing, but also tracking its assets. There were several DAMS available but I chose XINET for its flexibility, web front end for clients and editors, PM capabilities and version control.

The XINET suite required a huge amount of IO so I purchased a beast of a solution.

  • IBM 3870 with 160GB RAM and 8:16 core procs

  • IBM 8760 Direct attached 36TB Storage Cage

  • Centrify Bind as the middle ware to AD

The XINET option was also selected for the ability to partner with our other North American agencies running the same suite for replication as a DR point.

Designed and implemented a large scale enterprise Bay Area MAN employing multiple carriers for redundancy and failover all while keeping individual business units traffic completely separate for client compliance.

Technical team lead for the IPG network, telecom and server build outs for 15 company moves, expansions and remodels.

Security Camera & NVR

Axis & HP NVR Solution

Protection of corporate data and assets is imperative as well as providing safety for our employees. Many agencies experience theft despite having a front desk receptionist or security. Digitally capturing the days activities is the most efficient way to accomplish your security tasks along with environmental monitoring. For this project I procured and installed 7 Axis HD cameras and a rack mount HP DL160 for the NVR.
